Since Nashville has entered a period of rapid growth I enjoy driving to the construction sites and checking on progress. While driving near the Aertson Midtown project one day I saw this old house threatened by the progress all around it and my eye was captured by the rhythm of the winter trees surrounding it and the shadow patterns they produced. There was a clutter of detail which I simplified, then softened the edges, improved on the color and applied paint in an entertaining way.
